Healthy Dark Chocolate and Date Scones

Healthy scones? Healthy dark chocolate and date scones? That actually taste good? Yuuuuuup. These scones are phenomenal and I think I'm back on my scone grind because of them. They're crisp and hard on the outside, but have a nice moist & fluffy interior. The melted chocolate really takes them over the top.
Each scone is about 284 calories, has 11 grams of protein and just about 4 grams of fiber.
Ingredients
70g all purpose flour
70g almond flour
60g oat flour
40g vanilla whey protein powder
70g almond flour
60g oat flour
40g vanilla whey protein powder
30g brown sugar
12g baking powder (≈ 1 tbsp)
¼ tsp salt
12g baking powder (≈ 1 tbsp)
¼ tsp salt
40g cold butter, grated
150g 0% Greek yogurt
60ml skim milk
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
120g dates, chopped
60g dark chocolate, chopped or chips
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine all purpose flour, almond flour, oat flour, protein powder, baking powder, salt, and brown sugat.
- Add grated cold butter and mix until the texture resembles coarse crumbs. This is key for that classic scone texture.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Add wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined. Gently fold in chopped dates and dark chocolate. Don’t over mix. Refrigerate for a minimum of 15 minutes.
-
The dough will be very sticky-- with wet hands, for your scones and add them to the baking sheet. You should get about 8 medium sized scones.
- Top with milk for a golden brown and crisp exterior. Bake for 14–16 minutes
- Let them cool for at least 5–10 minutes before eating—this helps the texture set and improves the overall bite.
